We had the opportunity to showcase UNITED4Surveillance at the 2023 ESCAIDE conference in Barcelona from November 22 to 24! Our presentation offered an overview of the entire project and shared some exciting initial outcomes.
We shared preliminary survey results highlighting challenges in sharing laboratory data for notifiable diseases. Around two-thirds of countries face legal constraints in this area, alongside the need for additional training and more stable funding. Initial survey findings on automated outbreak detection tools showed potential for implementation of new outbreak detections systems. Developed within our project, these tools are set to undergo pilot testing in 8 or 9 countries, with a focus on gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases.
To enhance One Health surveillance systems, stakeholder analysis were conducted across 8 countries, revealing results for the first time at this event. The analysis covered different pathogens, including foodborne, zoonotic influenza, and vectorborne diseases. Additionally, we presented outcomes from a systems mapping workshop aimed at visualizing current surveillance systems and their desired future states. Over the next one and a half years, our goal is to transition from the existing systems to the desired ones.
